I was supposed to get married in Ukraine in September 2022. Obviously, that’s not going to happen.
Am I using tiktok to process my emotions? Yes.
Now, to be clear… my wedding was (and is!) not my main concern.
In case you’re new, my fiance is Ukranian… we planned to get married in Ukraine because his family lives there (or… lived)
Also… just saying… Ukraine is not a popular wedding destination. People should have figured that out.
Am I taking my angst out on haters on my tiktok platform? Also yes.
Ultimately, my fiance is a private person and I don’t believe it would be fair for me to talk extensively about his private life… nor would it be appropriate for me to overshare details regarding my extended family and their personal experiences with Ukraine.
So that’s why I have been mostly focusing MY personal narrative regarding Ukraine and my wedding around ME.
I just feel such a complex blend of emotions regarding Ukraine, my fiance and his family (aka my in-laws), and my wedding.
Overall I feel truly blessed to have traveled to Ukraine back in September 2021. I loved meeting his family and spending so much time with everyone together. I feel so lucky to have travled around, with my fiancé also getting to be a tourist in his own home-country. I have so many bitter sweet memories planning my wedding… even though I won’t see the originally planned vision come into fruition, I am glad I met and worked with all the vendors.
All well wishes, thoughts, prayers, good vibes, etc. have meant so much to me and my fiancé.
We will still get married, so I’m not particularly worried about that. For now, everyone in his family is alive and as safe as one can be during times like these. And once again, thank you to everyone for listening and caring about me, my fiance, his family, and the safety of Ukraine.
